The Bangladeshi government has roped in veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal to make a biopic on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The film will be jointly produced by India and Bangladesh and will depict the life and works of the late leader.
Shyam Benegal is among the 49 celebrities against whom an FIR has been lodged for alleged sedition.
“I don’t have the slightest of idea as to why sedition charges have been levelled against me,” India Today reported quoting Benegal.
“I am in Delhi representing India on Indo Bangladesh project while there is an FIR of sedition against me,” he said.
Shyam Benegal, in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stated that lynching of minorities must stop immediately.
“There cannot be democracy without dissent,” the letter further said.
In the recent past India has shown a lot of keeness to bring the former Bangladeshi PM nearer to the Indian people.
On August Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb declared to construct a museum on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the founding father of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
He was also the first President of Bangladesh and also served as the Prime Minister from March 1971 until he was assassinated on August 15, 1975.
India and Bangladesh signed a pact last year to jointly produce a feature film based on the life and works of Bangabandhu and a documentary of Bangladesh’s liberation war.
