Coronavirus Outbreak: Assam's First Suspected Case

Coronavirus outbreak has ‘reached Assam‘ as a person, with travel history of China, was admitted at the GMCH on February 13, 2020 (Thursday) after she complained of mild fever.

Sources informed that the lady last returned from China on February 6, 2010 (Thursday).

As per reports, doctors have been continuously monitoring her and keeping her under observation.

“She is now under surveillance of doctor in an isolated ward of the hospital,” The Assam Tribune reported quoting an unnamed source.

“Although there is no confirmation as yet, all necessary examinations are being done,” the report added.

“If need be, we will send her samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune,” the report further added.

State health department sources, however, said there have not been a single positive case of COVIB-19 (coronavirus) reported in Assam till date.

The state health department, so far, has identified and kept 56 persons in isolation who have a travel history to coronavirus-affected countries.

A person admitted at the GMCH earlier this month was thought to be infected with coronavirus, however, he was later cleared as all tests proved negative.

A screening centre has also been set-up at LGBI airport for screening passengers with possible coronavirus symptoms.

Meanwhile, the Chinese health officials have informed that so far 1367 persons have died in the country after the Coronavirus outbreak was reported in the country.

So far three confirmed cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) have been reported in India.

All the confirmed cases were reported from Kerala.

The first person was to be infected with the virus was treated in Thrissur district of Kerala.

Doctors recently said the patient was on the path of recovery and she would be soon set to go home.

She was a student studying at a university in Wuhan, China, from where the outbreak spread.
