Hoshiarpur: 14-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped By Man Met On Instagram
Police in Hoshiarpur are searching for a man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl after befriending her on social media.
The victim, a Class 9 student from Purhiran, knew the accused, identified as Deepak Kumar, through Instagram, where they had been in contact for some time, according to police.
He later began visiting the street where she lived.
As per media reports, on May 20, 2026, when her parents were at work, Kumar allegedly went to the girl’s house, persuaded her to leave with him, and took her on his motorcycle to a secluded room in an area under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Area Focal Point police station.
It is alleged that he raped her there.
The girl’s mother filed a complaint, leading police to register a case against Kumar on June 4, 2026, Thursday, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Officers said Kumar is currently on the run and that teams have been deployed to trace and arrest him.
The case is under investigation.
