A government hospital in Bihar, constructed at a significant expense has been left to decay, becoming a target for thieves and vandals.

This 30-bed facility, located on six acres in the Chand Pura area in Muzaffarpur district, was completed in 2015 at a cost of Rs 5 crore. Despite being equipped with modern amenities, it has never treated a single patient, and its medical equipment has been left to deteriorate.

As the hospital approaches its tenth anniversary, it remains unclaimed by the health department, with officials reportedly unaware of its existence.

In the meantime, thieves have stripped the hospital of its windows, doors, grills, gates, cupboards, electrical wiring, and other equipment, reducing it to a mere shell.

Locals report that the building, situated in the middle of a field, has become a haven for anti-social elements.

The hospital complex includes three buildings: one for health workers’ residences, one for a testing center, and the main hospital building.

Due to the hospital’s abandonment, residents are forced to travel to the city for medical treatment.

"When this hospital was being built, its grandeur gave us hope that we wouldn’t have to travel 50 km to the city for better treatment. But it never became operational, and we face significant difficulties traveling to the city for medical care," India Today reported quoting Sudhir Kumar, a local villager.

It may be mentioned here that the total population of the area is around one lakh.

All valuables from this hospital in Bihar have been stolen.

When questioned about the hospital, Sub Divisional Officer (West) Sherya expressed her ignorance of the facility and described the situation as serious. She mentioned that the District Magistrate has formed a team to investigate.

"The Civil Surgeon and the Circle Officer are investigating it at their level. Further information about the investigation will be shared with you," India Today reported added quoting Shreya.

This revelation comes just weeks after reports of a bridge in Bihar’s Araria district that stands in the middle of an open field, with no road on either side.

The bridge, built at a cost of Rs 3 crore, was intended to connect two villages, but land acquisition issues have left it stranded in the middle of a field.
