Snehankar Chakraborty, a 40-year-old journalist from Biswanath district in Assam, has embarked on a 1000-kilometre bicycle expedition from Biswanath Chariali.
The bicycle expedition has been aimed at spreading awareness on issues related to social safety and security of journalists in the state.
Snehankar will travel from Biswanath Chariali to Jorhat and also visit Dhola Sadiya, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Sivasagar.

It may be mentioned here that the time of the expedition coincides with atrocities against journalists being reported from several corners of the state.
Parag Bhuyan, a senior journalist was recently killed in a hit-and-run case in Tinsukia district, which, however, has been considered as a pre-planned murder.
The slain journalist had exposed an alleged nexus of a top BJP leader of the district.
Meanwhile, a local reporter was beaten up by gamblers in Mirza on the outskirts of Guwahati on November 14.
42-year-old Milin Mahanta was reportedly tied to an electric pole and attacked by goons in Mirza for unearthing an illegal betting and gambling den.
It may be mentioned here that Snehankar Chakraborty had earlier completed a 300-km bicycle expedition from Guwahati to Biswanath Chariali to raise awareness on the same issue.
“This time, I am taking a 1000-km ride from Biswanath to Sadiya for social safety and security of journalists," reported India Today quoting Snehankar.
"I was working as a journalist and presently I am freelancing. I will always stand with journalists,” he added.
