January 10, 2025

Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Tripura Police and Forest Service, destroyed vast ganja plantations spanning over 16.2 hectares in the Boxanagar Forest Range under Sonamura sub-division.

The operation led to the destruction of 16,500 cannabis plants, with an estimated market value of Rs 70 lakh, according to a press release issued on January 9, 2025.

The joint effort forms part of a larger mission to curb illicit activities and promote a drug-free environment in the region.

The operation, backed by local administration, underscores the importance of collective action in addressing drug-related challenges and safeguarding communities.

This milestone is one of several successful operations conducted by Assam Rifles in recent days.

It may be mentioned here that earlier this week, on January 4, 2025, a joint team comprising Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, intercepted a consignment of 10,320 kilograms of illegal areca nuts in Zote, Champhai district of Mizoram.

The seized consignment was valued at ?72.24 lakh, demonstrating the force’s unwavering commitment to combating cross-border smuggling.

In Manipur, the Assam Rifles, alongside the Indian Army, CRPF, and Manipur Police, launched a series of operations on January 5 across the districts of Imphal West, Chandel, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur.

The operations resulted in the recovery of a staggering cache of 42 weapons, ammunition, and warlike stores, including one Carbine Machine Gun, a modified .303 rifle, two 9mm pistols, three single-barrel rifles, grenades, and ammunition.

Furthermore, an earlier operation on December 31, 2024, between Thingphai and TS Laijang village in Chandel district, saw the recovery of one M-16 rifle, three Lathods, seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and other warlike stores.

This operation was a coordinated effort between Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, marking a decisive blow against insurgent activities.

These back-to-back successes highlight the Assam Rifles’ dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the northeastern states.

Their relentless efforts to counter illegal activities and maintain peace in the region continue to earn widespread recognition and support from local communities.
