The Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden has enhanced its diverse collection by acquiring seven new species through an animal exchange programme with Chhatbir Zoo in Punjab.
As part of this initiative, the Assam zoo has welcomed new species of birds including the Comb Duck, Golden Pheasant, Chukar Partridge, and Java Sparrow, among others.
This exchange aims to enrich the zoo’s avian diversity and provide visitors with an opportunity to witness a broader range of bird species.
Zoo officials have expressed optimism that the new additions will not only boost conservation efforts but also enhance the overall experience for wildlife enthusiasts.
The Assam State Zoo has been actively participating in such exchange programmes to promote biodiversity and strengthen captive breeding initiatives.
