Assamese Film ‘Rador Pakhi’ Wins Jury Special Mention At The International Film Festival Made By Women In Moscow

Assamese feature film Rador Pakhi (Morning Sunshine), directed by Dr Bobby Sarma Baruah, has received the Jury Special Mention – Super Mama Award at the International Film Festival Made by Women held in Moscow.

The film was screened in the Competition Section of the festival, which took place in the Russian capital from July 8 to 12. The latest recognition adds to the film’s run at national and international film festivals.

Rador Pakhi is inspired by the life of writer Sarmistha Pritam.

It tells the story of Jyoti, an aspiring writer from Assam who is diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at a young age. The film follows her efforts to build an independent life despite living with the condition.

Before its recognition in Moscow, the film was selected for the NFDC Film Bazaar Co-Production Market and premiered in the Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa in 2024.

It was later screened at the Third Eye Asian Film Festival in Mumbai, the Pune International Film Festival and the Bengaluru International Film Festival in 2025.

The film was also selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the International Film Festival of Thrissur and the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada in 2025.

Its selection at the Moscow festival marked its latest international appearance.

Produced by Basanta Kumar Baruah, Dr Bobby Sarma Baruah and Sulakhyana Baruah, the film features Sulakhyana Baruah, Kamal Lochan, Arun Nath and Bina Patangia in key roles.

Reacting to the award, Dr Baruah said the recognition was an encouragement for the team to continue making films that connect with audiences across cultures.
