Bollywood Actor Rishi Kapoor Passes Away

Veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor passed away at the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai on April 30, 2020, (Thursday) morning.

The 67-year-old actor was hospitalised on April 29, 2020 (Wednesday) night.

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 in the US, but returned to India in 2019 later after he was announced 'free of cancer'.

Kapoor's death comes within 24 hours after Bollywood lost Irrfan Khan on Wednesday morning.

Sharing the news, Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "He’s GONE ..! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away .. I am destroyed !"

Rishi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan have worked in a number of memorable films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Kabhie Kabhie, Naseeb, Coolie, Ajooba and more recently 102 Not Out.

Rishi Kapoor began his career as a background artist in the 1955 film Shree 420 starring his father Raj Kapoor and Nargis.

In the film, Kapoor appeared in the song Pyaar Huwa Iqrar Huwa in a scene for some brief seconds.

Later, in 1970 he essayed the role of Raj Kapoor's childhood part in the film Mera Naam Joker and the chubby Kapoor's performance was loved and admired by everyone.

After debuting as a hero in the film Bobby in 1973 opposite Dimple Kapadia, Rishi Kapoor went on to become one of the most loved actors of the Hindi film industry.

Karz, Barood, Laila Majnu, Khel Khel Mein, Rafoo Chakkar, Sargam, Tawaif, Prem Rog, Bade Dilwale, Saagar, Chandini, Deewana, Bol Radha Bol, Agneepath, Do Dooni Chaar, Aurangzeb, D-Day, Kapoor & Sons, Mulk are among some of Kapoor's popular movies.

He and his wife Neetu Singh acted in 12 movies and the last movie that they featured in together in was the Abhinav Kashyap directed 2013 movie Besharam.

It also starred their son Ranbir Kapoor and the chemistry between the three was highly appreciated even though the movie failed at the box-office.

Kapoor's last released film was The Body directed by Jeetu Joshesp and it also starred Emran Hashmi and Vedhika in pivotal roles.

Even though the movie failed to make an impression at the box office, however, Kapoor's character as SP Jairaj Rawal was extremely appreciated.

Rishi Kapoor will always be remembered for his spontaneity and wonderful comic timing and his signature dance moves.

He was popular as 'Chintu' among his friend circles and family members.

Rishi Kapoor is survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, son Ranbir Kapoor, daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and host of other friends and relatives.

TRIVIA: Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan starred together in the Nikhil Advani directed 2013 film D-Day.
