George Foreman, the two-time world heavyweight boxing champion, Olympic gold medallist, and successful entrepreneur, has passed away at the age of 76.

His family announced his passing and requested privacy while honouring his legacy.

Foreman was one of boxing’s most dominant figures, first capturing the world heavyweight title in 1973 with a stunning knockout victory over Joe Frazier.

His loss to Muhammad Ali in the historic 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” remains one of the sport’s most memorable bouts.

After an unexpected retirement in 1977, Foreman shocked the world with a comeback a decade later.

In 1994, at the age of 45, he reclaimed the heavyweight title by defeating Michael Moorer, making him the oldest world heavyweight champion in history.

Beyond boxing, Foreman built a successful business empire. He became a household name through the George Foreman Grill, which sold over 100 million units worldwide.

He was also a devoted preacher and philanthropist, establishing the George Foreman Youth and Community Center in Houston, where he dedicated himself to mentoring young people.

Foreman is survived by his wife, Mary Joan Martelly, and his large family, including five sons, five biological daughters, and two adopted daughters.

His passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes from the boxing world, fellow athletes, and fans, remembering him not only for his achievements in the ring but also for his warmth, resilience, and impact beyond the sport.

Foreman’s life and career were a testament to perseverance and reinvention, and his influence on boxing and popular culture will be felt for generations to come.
