An awareness programme on climate change was organised in Mizoram recently by the Mizoram State Climate Change Cell (MSCCC).
Titled ‘The Science of Climate Change’, the programme was organised by MSCCC under Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC).
It was held in collaboration with the Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner’s office at the DC conference Hall of the district.
Lawngtlai DC Shashanka Ala, in his speech addressing the gathering, stressed on the urgency of tackling climate change in Mizoram.
MISTIC chief scientific officer and member secretary Dr R K Lallianthanga called for taking up a holistic approach for tackling climate change.
Its dreadfulness was explained in details by MISTIC project scientist H Laldinpuii through a PowerPoint presentation.

Its impact in Mizoram was explained in details by another MISTIC scientist Lalthanpuia.
"Climate change has affected Mizoram adversely and we are going through a critical phase,” Lalthanpuia informed.
"It has been affecting our daily lives adversely and we shall have to do a lot to mitigate the effects," Lalthanpuia added.
A number of representatives from various NGOs and students from different educational institutions attended the programme.
During an interactive session, the MISTIC scientists and officials answered several queries from the students and other representatives.
"Entire world is combating the various changes in the climate," said a student participant.
"The polar ice-caps are melting and the groundwater is depleting fast. If we don't take up measures now, we won't exist," he added.
"Change in rainfall pattern, increase in the intensity of hurricanes, floods etc are some of its dreadful impacts," he added.
