The number of positive coronavirus cases rose to 125 in India as on March 17 and officials say it will escalate further in the coming days. The number was 114 on March 16.

The highest numbers of cases were reported from Maharashtra and then by Kerala.

As per data, Maharashtra has 36 coronavirus cases, including three foreign nationals.

Data further showed Kerala reported 22 cases, Uttar Pradesh 12, Karnataka 8, New Delhi 7 and Telangana 4 new coronavirus cases.

New coronavirus cases were also reported from Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand.

So far two persons have died due to coronavirus- one in New Delhi and one in Karnataka.

In the wake of the outbreak, the Maharashtra government issued a fresh advisory and it is formulating a strategy on the way forward to deal with coronavirus casualties.

Like several other states, schools, universities, gymnasiums, swimming pools, museums, cultural and social centres, shopping malls, and movie halls have bee shut down till March 31.

The government has urged the people to stop from public gathering and has asked all to maintain a social distance.

"Ensure physical distancing, minimum one metre, between tables, encourage open-air seating with adequate distancing,” the Maharashtra government advisory added.

The advisory further said that those who had already planned their weddings can go ahead but they were requested to have a limited gathering.

"All non-essential social and cultural gatherings should be postponed," the advisory added.

The advisory also urged people to avoid non-essential travels.

It is worth mentioning here that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his cabinet has decided to skip all public gatherings till March 31.

School, colleges, other educational institutions, gymnasiums, Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden, swimming pools have also been closed down till March 29.

Closure notices have also been issued in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, and Meghalaya.

"The coronavirus outbreak will have a long-lasting impact on the tourism industry across the world," said Anjali Khound, a tour operator, while speaking to The Story Mug.

"Even after the virus is contained, the fear factor of it resurfacing would certainly linger on for months," she added.
