Tripura education minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday claimed that the COVID-19 recovery rate of the state is better than the national rate.

Addressing the media in Agartala the minister said, "In terms of recovery rate, Tripura is positioned at number eight."

"We have a recovery rate of 64 per cent, which is much higher than the national recovery rate," he added.

"The recovery rate in the state was 23.83 per cent on June 9 and it is 63.84 per cent as of yesterday," the minister further said.

"Compared to some other states, the COVID-19 situation in Tripura is much better and it is improving every day," he added.

The minister further informed that from June 15 onwards the recovery rate in the state has shown a rise.

He further informed that the state's mortality rate is 0.08 per cent.

Speaking further the minister said that the low mortality and the high recovery rate has been possible only due to the undying efforts by the healthcare officials.

"I thank each and every healthcare official of the state because for their tireless efforts today we have been able to achieve this high recovery rate," Nath said.

"We have also completed over 57000 COVID-19 tests in the state so far and in the future, the number of tests conducted will only increase," he said.

It may be mentioned here that Tripura has a total of 1241 COVID-19 cases with 23 patients being discharged from hospitals earlier on Tuesday.

The minister further informed that the state government has taken up steps and schemes for the welfare and benefits of the people of the state.

He also informed that in the coming days the fight against COVID-19 will be intensified.

Most of the COVID-19 cases in Tripura are BSF personnel and their family members.

Tripura ranks second in terms of COVID-19 cases in the northeast after Assam.
