If reports are to be believed, then exams from home would soon become a common thing in the future and several experts have already considered it as the reality of the future.

Chief of the National Testing Agency (NTA) Vineet Joshi on Tuesday (June 30) informed that the agency is in the process of exploring an option of developing a mechanism, which could enable exams from home (in the future) with zero scopes for unfair practices.

His statement came at a web-discussion on the future of education, an NTA statement said.

"The NTA was set up in 2018 and in two years it has conducted tests for nearly one crore candidates," Joshi said.

The NTA has also been extensively working on developing a mechanism to hold exams from home, Joshi further said during the web discussion.

It may be mentioned here that NTA conducts the highly competitive NEET and JEE exams.

"The agency was making developments forays in this direction in future years a proctored mechanism can be created which can allow home-based exams while eliminating the scope for the use of unfair means," reported Hindustan Times quoting the NTA chief.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, un unnamed NTA official, in fact, confirmed that the agency was making strides in developing the capacity to hold exams from home.

The official further informed that a home-based exam was recently conducted for the Sports Authority of India (SAI) by the NTA.

The NTA, however, has no plans to hold bigger exams like JEE or NEET through such mode in the immediate future.

The official, however, asserted that the NTA is only developing the capacity for exams from home in the future.

It may be mentioned here that the HRD ministry is expected to take a call on holding of JEE and NEET exams.

The JEE and NEET are scheduled in the second half of July and keeping in view the COVID-19 situation, it is unlikely that the examinations could go ahead as scheduled.

Quoting a government official Hindustan Times reported, "While the NTA has made preparations, the Home Ministry guidelines have suggested that educational institutions stay closed."

It may be mentioned here that in the wake of the COVID-19 situation, the CBSE examinations were also postponed.

It is a challenge for the HRD ministry and it will make an announcement soon.
