A POSCO court in the Araria district of Bihar sentenced a rape accused man in just one day's day’s proceedings to life imprisonment. He was accused of raping an eight-year-old girl.
The verdict probably is the fasted verdict delivered in the country by any OCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court.
The order was passed on October 4, 2021, and the order sheet about the case was made available on November 26, 2021.
The verdict was delivered by POCSO Court Special Judge Shashi Kant Rai.
Rai also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
The convict was directed to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh for the survivor’s rehabilitation.
The eight-year-old girl was raped on July 22, 2021, and an FIR was lodged the next day. Araria women’s police station in charge Rita Kumari supervised the case.
The previous fasted verdict in a rape trial was delivered by a court in the Datia district of Madhya Pradesh in August 2018. The court wrapped up the case in three days.
