Rakesh Bedi in Guwahati Theatre Festival

Guwahati Theatre Festival Set To Woo Audience

December 6, 2019

The 4th Guwahati Theatre Festival will begin on Friday in Guwahati with a Rakesh Bedi play.

Acclaimed plays like Patte Khul Gaye, The Davil Wears Bata and Kusoor will be staged in the span of three days.

On Friday, veteran actor Rakesh Bedi will enthral the audience with his acclaimed and popular play Patte Khul Gaye.

Directed by Bedi himself, the play is a hilarious portrayal of the hypocrisy prevalent in society.

The play narrates the story of Manoj Rai- a physician- and his wife Manju Rai who have invited a group of friends for dinner.

Apart from Bedi, the play is powered by the performances of Kishwer Merchant, Anant Mahadevan, Avijit Dutt and Rupali Ganguly.

Along with the plays, Guwahati Theatre Festival will also provide learning opportunities to local aspiring actors and directors.

A workshop with Rakesh Bedi has also been scheduled on Friday, where aspiring actors and directors will be taught on acting and direction.

The three-day festival is being organised by G-Plus- a leading English weekly of Guwahati.

Assam Tourism, Apollo Hospitals, Purabi Milk, Bank of Baroda, Indian Oil and Life Insurance Corporation are the co-hosts of the festival.

“The idea behind Guwahati Theatre Festival is to reach out to wider audiences,” said Sunit Jain, the festival chairman.

“The festival aims to help shed the notion that theatre-going is an activity restricted only to a certain section of people,” he added.

Guwahati Theatre Festival, in its first three editions, has successfully pulled audience not just from Guwahati but from the outskirts as well.

It is expected that the festival will create the same buzz and enthusiasm in its 4th edition as well.
