IPL: SRH Hold Off CSK To Win By 10 Runs

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 10 runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 18, 2026, Saturday.

Defending a target of 195, Hyderabad restricted Chennai to 184 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs to secure the win.

Chasing 195, Chennai Super Kings finished on 184 for 8 in 20 overs. The chase was anchored by a steady start, and the side appeared to be in control at the halfway stage, requiring 84 runs from the final 10 overs with wickets in hand.

However, Hyderabad’s bowlers maintained consistent lines and lengths after the Powerplay to restrict scoring opportunities.

Sri Lankan fast bowler Eshan Malinga played a key role in the latter stages of the innings. He returned figures of 3 for 29 from his four overs, striking at important moments.

His use of yorkers, alongside variations in pace and length, proved effective on a surface that offered some assistance to disciplined bowling.

Left-arm wrist spinner Shivang Kumar supported the effort in the middle overs. He conceded 18 runs in his three overs and claimed one wicket.

His spell reduced the scoring rate during a phase when Chennai were looking to build momentum. Kumar was able to extract turn and bounce, which made stroke-making difficult.

CSK’s innings did not feature a sustained partnership in the second half of the chase.

While the required rate remained within reach for much of the innings, regular pressure from SRH’s bowlers meant that the batting side was unable to accelerate as required. Wickets at intervals further affected their progress.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 194 in their 20 overs after they were put in by CSK after wining the toss.

SRH’s total was built on contributions from the top and middle order, with the side maintaining a steady scoring rate across phases of the innings.

SRH’s bowlers executed their plans effectively in the second innings, particularly after the Powerplay.

The combination of pace variations and spin control ensured that Chennai could not capitalise on the conditions despite a favourable equation at the midway stage.

With this result, Sunrisers Hyderabad added two points to their tally in the league standings.

Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, will look to address their middle-order approach in run chases after falling short in a match where the target was within reach.
