Jigra Review: Despite Alia Bhatt's Power, Film Falls Flat

October 13, 2024

Jigra is a film that struggles to find its footing despite the star power of Alia Bhatt.

Directed by Vasan Bala, the movie attempts to blend an action-packed narrative with emotional depth, but ultimately falls short due to its chaotic storytelling and overemphasis on style over substance.

Alia Bhatt delivers a commendable performance as a young woman who is determined to rescue her brother from a foreign jail. However, her portrayal, while intense, lacks the vulnerability that usually adds depth to her characters.

Vedang Raina and Sobhita Dhulipala also contribute to the film, but their performances are overshadowed by the film's convoluted plot.

The film's narrative is one of its biggest drawbacks. The story, which revolves around a prison break, feels disjointed and fails to build a cohesive and engaging plot.

The pacing is uneven, with some scenes dragging on while others feel rushed, leaving the audience disconnected from the characters' journey.

The action sequences, while well-choreographed, do not seamlessly integrate with the emotional beats of the story, making the film feel like two separate entities forced together.

Jigra is a film that had the potential to become an engaging thriller, that ultimately fails to deliver. Its chaotic narrative and lack of cohesive storytelling prevent it from reaching its full potential.

It's a missed opportunity that leaves viewers wanting more.
