Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday Inaugurated Level 1 Trauma care centre at Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) via video conferencing.

The centre has been inaugurated as part of 'capacity building for developing trauma care facilities on National Highways'.

The aim of the centre is to bring down preventable deaths because of a road accident by developing a pan India trauma care network within every 100km radius.

Sharing the information, the CM tweeted, "Inaugurated Level 1 Trauma care centre RIMS, Imphal as part of 'Capacity building for developing trauma care facilities on National Highways'."

"The aim is to bring down preventable deaths because of a road accident by developing a pan India trauma care network within every 100km radius," the Manipur CM added.

Appreciating, RIMS authorities for developing such Trauma Care Centre, the CM said that the Trauma Centre would have ICU beds, HCU beds, trolley beds, operation theatres, CT-Scan machines, dialysis unit etc.

The Manipur CM also said that the state has highly qualified and experienced doctors and healthcare workers as compared to other states.

He further highlighted that the government acknowledges the selfless services rendered by doctors, nurses and paramedical staffs during this pandemic.

Expressing hope that the state would overcome the pandemic with such dedicated services of the healthcare workers, he emphasized that public awareness campaign would play an important role to combat the disease.

In his speech RIMS director, Prof A Santa said that the number of ICU beds has been increased to 30 and more than 20 ventilators have been installed with a back up of another 30 ventilators in the Trauma Care Centre.

Two Operation Theatres are available with two mobile X-Ray machines, he added.

He appreciated the Chief Minister and government for the support and co-operation in developing such Trauma Centre at RIMS.

The Trauma Care Centre was constructed by MTDC with an estimated cost of Rs 11.34 crores sanctioned by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under Capacity Building for developing Trauma Care Facilities on National Highways.

Sources said Level I trauma centres provide multidisciplinary treatment and specialized resources for trauma patients and require trauma research, a surgical residency program and an annual volume of 600 major trauma patients per year.
