The Manipur government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 3,88,50,000 for the construction of 37 tribal museums in different parts of the state.
Making the announcement on December 23, 2020, Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted, "With Christmas just around the corner, I’m happy to share that the State Govt. has sanctioned Rs 38,850,000 for construction of 37 tribal museums in different parts of Manipur. These museums will play an important role in preserving the cultural heritage of Tribal communities.”

It is expected that these 37 tribal museums would help to preserve the cultural heritage of diverse tribal communities in Manipur.
The major tribal communities include the Tangkhul, Zeliangrong, Mao and Kukis among others.
The majority of the tribal communities in the state are Christians and Christmas is celebrated in a big way here.
