Renowned Assamese actor and director Mehtab Hussain passed away in Guwahati at the age of 75 on February 27, 2025.
Born to parents Muhibuddin Ahmed and Safia Khatun, Hussain hailed from Dibrugarh Sadar before settling in Chandmari, Guwahati.
Hussain made his acting debut as the leading man in Khoj- the first Assamese film directed by Pulak Gogoi, with music composed by the legendary Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Beyond acting, he was a pioneer in Assamese cinema production. He gained widespread popularity for creating and starring in Mitaar Tita Mitha, Assam's first comedy serial broadcast on Guwahati Doordarshan, endearing himself to audiences as "Mehtab Ka."
In addition to his contributions to the entertainment industry, Mehtab Hussain was a successful entrepreneur in various fields.
Notably, he was Assam's first graduate in tea science. He is survived by his elder brother, esteemed physician Professor Dr. Zakir Hussain, his wife, son, and daughter.
Mehtab Hussain's enduring smile and significant impact on both regional and national cinema have left an indelible mark on the industry.
