Nagaland: Awareness Programme On Teenage Pregnancy Conducted At Longleng

November 16, 2021

An awareness programme on teenage pregnancy was held on November 13, 2021, at Longleng Town Baptist Church under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Yojana.

The awareness programme on teenage pregnancy was organised by the Mahila Shakti Kendra and District administration, Longleng in collaboration with Nagaland State Aids Control Society, Longleng and Longleng Town Baptist Church.

DSRC counsellor Lithei Phom and Longleng PBCS literary secretary Chingong Phom were the resource persons in this awareness programme.

Lithei Phom emphasised the three topics- definition, causes, and prevention of teenage pregnancy.

She said the main reason for the high rate of teenage pregnancy is inadequate sex education and one absolute method to prevent pregnancy among teenagers is sexual abstinence.

Chingong Phom spoke on moral ethics. She advised the students not to be influenced by peer pressure/bad company, to choose healthy life, to avoid early marriages.

Asserting that it will be difficult to live in a society where there is criticism for every little act, she challenged the students to be different & live life with dignity and achieve their goal with a difference.

Women Welfare Officer MSK-DLCW, Longleng,  P Phungla encouraged the students to take such programme seriously and to think of themselves as most privileged and fortunate to be a part of such program, as there was no such activity conducted during those time.

Around eight hundred students of various schools of Longleng town from the age group of 13 to 19 years attended the awareness programme.
