National Textiles Ministers’ Conference In Guwahati From Tomorrow

January 7, 2026

A national conference of textiles ministers from across India will begin in Guwahati on January 8, 2025, Thursday, bringing together policymakers to chart the future course of the country’s textile sector.

The two-day National Textiles Ministers’ Conference 2026, scheduled for January 8 and January 9, 2025, is being organised by the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the Government of Assam.

The event will be held under the theme “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation” and is expected to see participation from ministers and senior officials representing states and union territories.

The conference aims to serve as a platform for high-level discussions on policy reforms, investment opportunities, sustainability, export growth, infrastructure development and the adoption of new technologies in the textile industry.

It aligns with the Centre’s broader objective of positioning India as a global textile manufacturing hub by 2030, with an emphasis on employment generation and inclusive growth.

The inaugural session on January 8, 2025, will be addressed by the Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, alongside Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, and other senior officials are also expected to attend.

An exhibition highlighting India’s textile heritage, innovations and manufacturing capabilities will be inaugurated on the opening day.

A series of thematic sessions will focus on key areas including infrastructure and investment, export promotion, availability of raw materials and fibres, technical and emerging textiles, and the preservation of traditional handlooms and handicrafts.

Special attention will be given to flagship initiatives such as the PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Parks, as well as environmental sustainability and compliance across the value chain.

The conference will also feature a dedicated conclave on strengthening the textile sector in the North-Eastern region, with discussions centred on harnessing the potential of indigenous products such as Eri, Muga and Mulberry silk.

The session will also explore avenues for women-led enterprises, branding and improved market access for regional producers.

Officials said the conference is expected to strengthen coordination between the Centre and states and help outline a clear roadmap for building a competitive, sustainable and inclusive textile industry in the coming years.
