The 9th edition of the Chalachitram National Film Festival (CNFF-25) will be held on October 25 and 26, 2025, at the Jyoti Chitraban (Film Studio) Society in Kahilipara, Guwahati.
Organisers said nearly 100 short features and documentaries have been submitted so far from across the northeast and other parts of India. More entries are expected until the September 20 deadline.
The two-day festival, organised by Chalachitram, a subsidiary of Vishwa Samvad Kendra Assam, will be held under the theme “Our Heritage, Our Pride”.
It aims to showcase Indian civilisation, culture and heritage, while providing a platform for serious filmmakers and cine enthusiasts.
Awards will be presented in several categories, including Best Short Feature, Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Editing under the Northeast section, along with Best Short Feature and Best Documentary in the national category. Winners will receive trophies, certificates and cash prizes.
According to CNFF-25 secretary Bhagwat Pritam Dutta, a jury board and review committee have already been constituted.
The entries reflect themes such as Indian heritage, freedom movement heroes, indigenous culture, arts and artisans, mythology, national integration, women empowerment, and tourism potential.
