A gruesome killing in Lucknow has shocked residents after a teenager allegedly shot his father dead and dismembered the body in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Police say the incident took place inside the family’s home following a prolonged dispute over career expectations and academic pressure.

According to investigators, the accused used a licensed rifle during an early-morning argument with his father, a businessman who owned a pathology laboratory.

The victim died on the spot. The youth’s sister was present in the house at the time and is believed to have witnessed the aftermath of the shooting.

After the killing, the teenager allegedly dragged the body to another part of the house, cut it into pieces and attempted to dispose of the remains.

Police later recovered a torso concealed inside a large blue plastic drum kept on the premises, while other body parts were reportedly dumped at separate locations.

Investigators believe tensions had been building between the father and son over the latter’s future. The father wanted him to prepare for the highly competitive National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical colleges, while the youth was reportedly unwilling to pursue that path.

Frequent arguments over studies and employment are said to have escalated in the weeks leading up to the killing.

Police sources indicate that the accused attempted to mislead authorities after the incident by filing a missing person complaint about his father.

The deception unravelled during questioning, after inconsistencies emerged in his statements and forensic teams examined the house and vehicle.

Officers subsequently recovered the concealed remains and arrested the youth on charges including murder and destruction of evidence.

Officials also revealed that some body parts were transported in a car and disposed of in a secluded area. Search operations are ongoing to locate any remains that have not yet been recovered, while forensic examination of bloodstains and ballistic evidence continues.

The incident has triggered concern over the intense pressure faced by students preparing for competitive examinations in India.

Authorities have urged families to seek counselling and support in situations involving extreme academic stress, warning that unresolved conflict can escalate into serious violence.

Police said the accused will be produced before a court as the investigation proceeds. The neighbourhood, meanwhile, remains shaken by the brutality of a crime that unfolded behind closed doors in an otherwise ordinary residential area.
