The Langhin region of Karbi Anglong is in shock and sorrow following the untimely passing of talented young actor Marina Basumatary.
A resident of Jamuguri village, Karbi Anglong, Marina was the daughter of Ashok Basumatary and Anima Basumatary and she had been battling a severe illness.
The talented actor passed away on February 25, 2025, while being taken to Diphu Medical College Hospital, breathing her last before she could receive medical care.
Marina’s contributions to the regional entertainment industry were significant despite her short career.
Speaking to the media, Jwngsar Basumatary, President of the Bodo Ken Artist Association, Karbi Anglong District Committee, shared that Marina Basumatary had mesmerised audiences with her performances in nearly seven music albums.
Some of her most loved works included Jwnwm Jwnwm, Jowliya Bar, and That Nong, among others.
She also showcased her acting prowess in more than three short films and was all set to feature in the film Goronathiya Chawrani.
Sadly, her worsening health did not allow her to take on the role, leaving a promising journey unfinished.
Marina Basumatary had an incredible ability to captivate audiences, and in a very short time, she won the hearts of many.
She was deeply involved in various albums and films directed by Jwngsar Basumatary in Langhin.
Apart from being a performer, she played a key role in promoting cultural activities, serving as the Assistant Cultural Secretary of the Bodo Ken Artist Association, Karbi Anglong District Committee.
Her death has left a void that is hard to fill. She is survived by her grieving parents, an elder and a younger sister, as well as numerous relatives and well-wishers.
The loss of such a bright and talented young soul has cast a shadow over the entire region, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and admired her.
