Actor-director R Madhavan has addressed recent misunderstandings circulating on social media. Some users mistakenly believed he was engaging in flirtatious exchanges with young girls or responding to kiss emojis.
The actor has now clarified the situation to dispel any confusion.
Speaking at an event in Chennai, Madhavan highlighted the challenges of social media and the potential risks it poses.
He has partnered with a parental control app designed to help parents monitor their children’s online activities.
Reflecting on his own experiences, he shared an example of how social media interactions can be misinterpreted.
“The app will allow parents to see when their child is using social media. Let me give you an example. As an actor, I receive numerous messages on Instagram and other platforms. A young girl might message me, saying, ‘I saw this movie, I really loved it. You are a fabulous actor—well done! You inspire me.’ She then adds multiple heart and kiss emojis,” Madhavan explained.
He continued, “When a fan takes the time to write such a heartfelt message, I feel compelled to respond. I always reply with, ‘Thank you so much, that is very kind of you. God bless you.’ But then, she takes a screenshot of my response and posts it on Instagram. What do people see? The emojis—hearts, kisses, and love symbols—with my reply underneath. Suddenly, the narrative changes to ‘Maddy is chatting with young girls.’ That was never my intention. I was simply acknowledging her kind words. If I, with all my experience, have to tread carefully with every social media interaction, imagine how much trouble someone less experienced could get into.”
On the professional front, R Madhavan was recently seen in Hisaab Barabar, a film centred on bank scams.
He has an exciting slate of upcoming projects, including Adhirshtasaali and Test in Tamil, as well as Amriki Pandit, De De Pyaar De 2, Kesari Chapter 2, and Dhurandhar in Hindi.
