Two Coaches Of Indore-Jabalpur Overnight Express Derail In Jabalpur

September 7, 2024

Two coaches of the Indore-Jabalpur Overnight Express derailed near Jabalpur Railway Station in Madhya Pradesh early this morning at around 5:50, approximately 150 metres from platform number six.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Harshit Shrivastava, Chief Public Relations Officer of West Central Railway, confirmed that all passengers were safe, as the train was moving at a dead-stop speed when the derailment occurred.

"The train was approaching platform number six at a very slow speed, and two coaches derailed. Thankfully, all passengers are safe, and everyone has left for home," Shrivastava stated.

The cause of the derailment remains unknown, and further details are awaited.

This incident is part of a series of train derailments that have occurred in India this year.

On August 17, 22 bogies of the Sabarmati Express, travelling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad, derailed between Kanpur and Bhimsen station in Uttar Pradesh.

Initial investigations suggest that the engine struck an object on the track, leading to the derailment. No injuries were reported in that incident either, and authorities continue their investigation.

Earlier in the year, on June 2, the Coromandel Express collided with a goods train in Odisha, resulting in a major derailment with significant casualties and injuries.

This tragic event highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures and infrastructure upgrades within the Indian railway system.

In another incident on March 26, the Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailed in West Bengal, injuring several passengers. The derailment was attributed to a track fracture, underscoring the importance of regular maintenance and timely inspections to prevent such occurrences.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety and reliability of train travel in India, prompting calls for comprehensive reforms and enhanced safety protocols to ensure the well-being of passengers.
