The 14th edition of Axom Milon Europe, a premier annual gathering of the Assamese diaspora, concluded in Luxembourg on October 28, 2025, Sunday, after three days of vibrant cultural celebration, emotional reunions, and heartfelt tributes to two of Assam's most beloved musical icons- Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg.
Held from October 24 to 26, 2025, the event brought together Assamese communities from across Europe, reinforcing the spirit of unity and cultural pride under this year's theme- A Cultural Bridge Across Continents.
First organised in Germany in 2009, Axom Milon- which translates to Assamese Reunion- has evolved into a continent-wide celebration of Assamese identity and heritage.
The 2025 edition marked yet another milestone, with participants attending from over 20 European countries.
The three-day event featured a diverse line-up of cultural performances, exhibitions, and community discussions, along with the launch of a digital magazine and a new official website for Axom Milon.
The magazine, also titled Axom Milon, highlighted stories of Assamese lives across Europe and carried special tributes to artists who have shaped Assam’s cultural landscape, aiming to strengthen connections between generations abroad and their homeland.
This year's edition was particularly poignant as it honoured the enduring legacy of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg, whose music continues to resonate deeply with the Assamese diaspora.
For many attendees, Zubeen Garg's songs have long served as a bridge between continents, evoking nostalgia and pride in their cultural identity.
The celebrations also coincided with the birth centenary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, known as Xudhakantha (the Bard of Brahmaputra), whose timeless compositions advocated for humanity, unity, and justice.
Speaking after the event, the event organisers expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming participation and emotional resonance of this year’s theme.
"Axom Milon has always been more than a gathering- it's a feeling of home away from home," they said.
"This year, as we celebrated the legacies of Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg, we were reminded that no matter where we live, we remain bound by the rhythm and spirit of Axom," the added.
The Axom Milon Europe 2025 concluded with a collective rendition of Dr. Hazarika's Manuhe Manuhor Babe, symbolising unity, compassion, and the shared pride of the global Assamese community.
