A 51-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at the Godan police station died by suicide on July 22, 2025, Tuesday, reportedly after enduring sustained harassment from senior police officials and individuals allegedly associated with the illegal sand mining trade.
The deceased, identified as ASI Pramod Paawan, had served at the Godan police station for the past year.
In the early hours before his death, Paawan recorded a video and shared it on social media, in which he accused several individuals of harassing him after he intercepted a vehicle transporting illegally mined sand.
According to sources, Paawan named four individuals in the video: Godan police station in-charge Arvind Singh Bhadoria, constable and driver Roop Narayan Yadav, Thorat police station in-charge Anfasul Hasan, and an alleged sand mafia member identified as Bablu Yadav, a resident of Godan village.
He claimed the harassment began after he took action against a sand-laden vehicle allegedly owned by Bablu Yadav, who, according to Paawan, was also involved in running illegal gambling operations.
Before taking the extreme step, Paawan reportedly sent the video messages to his son. When repeated calls to Paawan went unanswered, his son alerted other family members and the police.
Officers subsequently broke open the door to Paawan’s official residence, where they found him hanging.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns over the alleged nexus between law enforcement personnel and illegal sand mining rackets in the region.
Senior officials have yet to issue a formal statement on the matter, but an investigation has reportedly been initiated into the allegations made by the deceased officer.
