Assamese cinema made a strong impression at the 22nd Third Eye Asian Film Festival, with filmmaker Monjul Boruah’s Romantic Affairs emerging as one of the major winners of the festival.
The film won three awards in the Indian Competition section:
Best Director – Monjul Boruah
Best Actress – Kasavi Sonkorison
Special Jury Award – Boloram Das
Boruah shared the news on social media and credited the team behind the film.
"This is truly a team victory. My deepest thanks to every soul who brought this film to life. Honored and humbled," Boruah wrote on social media.
Assamese films also featured prominently elsewhere at the festival. Sanjib Sabhapandit’s Ballad to the Winds won Best Film in the Indian Cinema category, further underlining Assam’s growing visibility in India’s independent film circuit.
The festival also recognised cinema from the wider Northeast.

Other award winners included Rudrajit Roy for Pinger – The Cage and debut director Dr Onkar Bhatkar for The Weight of Longing.
In the contemporary Marathi film category, Sabar Bond won Best Film, while Rohan Kanawade won Best Director. Marathi filmmaker Santosh Davkhar was also recognised for Gondal.
The festival was organised in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Government of Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Film, Theatre and Cultural Development Corporation, and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
