Child Falls From Moving Train; Emergency Chain Allegedly Fails To Stop Coach

A child fell from a moving train on the Jalpaiguri–Ramnagar route, triggering panic among passengers who claimed that repeated attempts to stop the train by pulling the emergency chain failed.

According to accounts emerging from passengers and a video circulating on social media, the incident occurred while the train was in motion, when the child reportedly slipped or fell from one of the coaches.

A woman identified by co-passengers as the child’s mother raised an alarm immediately after the fall.

Passengers in the compartment said several people pulled the emergency chain in quick succession in an attempt to halt the train.

However, the train allegedly continued moving despite these efforts, prompting anger and distress among those on board.

A young man travelling in the same coach recorded a video describing the situation.

In the footage, he is heard saying that calls were made to the police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), but no immediate response was received. The video also shows the distressed woman seeking help from fellow passengers.

Some reports based on passenger accounts claim that the train continued for several kilometres after the incident, though this has not been independently verified.

The incident has raised concerns over the functioning of emergency safety systems in trains, particularly the effectiveness of the alarm chain mechanism, which is designed to bring a train to a halt in urgent situations.

There were also questions over the response time of railway authorities, including onboard staff and security personnel, after passengers reportedly alerted officials.

As of now, there is no official confirmation of the child’s condition or the exact sequence of events leading to the fall.

Railway authorities are understood to have taken note of the incident, and an inquiry is likely to be conducted to ascertain the facts, including whether there was any technical fault in the emergency chain system or lapses in response.

The reports are largely based on eyewitness accounts and unverified video footage, and further details are awaited.
