Rahim Raj: He Is Not Just A Singer, But An Emotion.

For the past several months, I had been hearing about the new singing sensation, Rahim Raj, whose voice bears a striking resemblance to that of the legendary Zubeen Garg.

By rendering Zubeen Garg’s immortal songs in a voice and style remarkably similar to that of the legendary singer, Rahim has carved a niche for himself and earned immense love and admiration from audiences wherever he performs

On Saturday night (June 13, 2026), I had the opportunity to witness him perform at a cultural programme near my house, where he was the star attraction.

My husband and I arrived at the venue around 11:30 pm, and what I saw left me spellbound. The crowd was dancing, singing along, and thoroughly immersed in the music.

What struck me most was that Rahim Raj was not merely entertaining people by singing Zubeen Garg’s songs; he was evoking emotions and memories.

For a few moments, it felt as though people were listening to Zubeen Garg himself, as if the legend were still among us, performing live on stage.

The most heartwarming sight was the audience repeatedly chanting “Joi Zubeen Da!” and “Zubeen Da Zindabad!”, and requesting one beloved song after another.

Rahim accepted every request with remarkable grace and humility, trying his best to accommodate as many as possible.

As a singer, he still has much to learn and much to practice. There are limitations that only time, experience, and dedication can overcome. Yet, despite those shortcomings, one thing is undeniable- he possesses stage presence.

The young singer has an aura that naturally draws people towards him. Based on what I witnessed on Saturday night, I am convinced that he has the potential to become one of the finest stage performers in Assam in the years to come.

I know very little about his abilities as a musician, composer, or songwriter. Therefore, I cannot comment on those aspects of his artistry. However, as a live performer, he undoubtedly has something special.

At the same time, the road ahead will not be easy.

If Rahim truly wishes to leave a lasting mark as a singer, he will eventually have to create an identity of his own. No artist can remain forever in the shadow of a legend, however beloved that legend may be.

History has shown us that several singers who sounded similar to Zubeen Garg emerged over the years, but most gradually faded away. Originality is what ultimately stands the test of time.

Nevertheless, I am genuinely happy to see people enjoying his performances and finding joy through his music.

If, through Rahim Raj, audiences are once again reconnecting with the songs and spirit of Zubeen Garg, then that is something truly beautiful.
