Masked goons on Sunday evening barged into the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, attacking teachers and students and vandalising properties.

A number of JNU students recorded the violence and shared it on their social media accounts.

The videos showed both male and female goons were a part of the gang that thrashed the students and the teachers.

The goons used wooden and metal rods to carry out the carnage.

In the attack, two officer-bearers of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) were injured severely.

The office bearers include JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and general secretary Satish Chandra.

Ghosh was reportedly hit over the eye with an iron rod, injuring her severely.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) doctors later confirmed that at least 10 persons were admitted to the hospital with multiple head injuries,

The JNUSU office bearers accused RSS’ student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for rampant violence.

JNUSU vice president Saket Moon, in a WhatsApp message to the media said, "ABVP has formed a mob of goons from outside the JNU campus. They are going room to room with sticks, stones."

The goons destroyed JNU hostel rooms, and lobbies during the assault while several vehicles standing on roads were damaged by the unidentified miscreants.

The police reached the spot and they had already begun investigating the incident.

In a tweet, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "Horrifying images from JNU - the place I know & remember was one for fierce debates & opinions but never violence. I unequivocally condemn the events of today. This govt, regardless of what has been said the past few weeks, wants universities to be safe spaces for all students."

Reacting to the situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Delhi Police Commissioner and urged him to take necessary actions.

In a tweet, the HMO said, "Union Home Minister has spoken to Delhi Police Commissioner over JNU violence and instructed him to take necessary action. Hon’ble Minister has also ordered an enquiry to be carried out by a Joint CP level officer and asked for a report to be submitted as soon as possible."
