Dr Rituraj Bhuyan is a known figure in the world of photography, who has carved out a niche for himself- among the Indian photography enthusiasts and also beyond the Indian periphery.

Rituraj Bhuyan is among those few photographers who let his photography do all the talking rather than trying to cement one foot here and the other foot there and expertise on things that already have hundreds of other experts.

A silent and ardent enthusiast of photography, Rituraj Bhuyan believes in capturing every single frame that makes an everlasting impression in his heart.

The Story Mug caught up with this medical practitioner to know more about his work and life in this short interview.

TSM: When did the photographer's bug bite you?

RB: Photography has been in my blood as my father was a well-known hobbyist of his time.

I did get a few opportunities to use his camera a few times during my school days.

It was in 2006 when I bought my own point and shoot camera- Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70 Digital Camera. From then on I have been actively associated with photography.

TSM: Which was the first photograph that you clicked?

RB: I have always been fascinated by the details, colours and wide varieties of flowers and started taking close-up shots of them with my camera. Though it will be difficult to recall the first shot, I have a few memorable ones.

TSM: When going for a photography excursion, what are the studies you do?

RB: Presently, I am into bird photography. The first thing that I decide on is about the species that I plan to shoot and the location where I would find it.

The next thing that I look at is to find out the easiest possible way to reach that specific location. Then I find out the best time for sighting those birds, as you can sight different birds in different seasons of the year.

It is always helpful to know the behaviour and habitat of the birds to get good photographs of them.

TSM: The subjects that attract you the most

RB: I love taking photographs of birds, butterflies, sunsets and landscapes.

TSM: Who have/has been your inspiration/inspirations

RB: It’s difficult for me to name one as there are several photographers in social media who are excellent in their respective fields.

TSM: How important are the gears used in photography?

RB: Different genres of photography need different gears and they are very important for each genre.

TSM: Tell us about the gears that you use.

RB: I started with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70 Digital Camera. My first DSLR was the Canon 450D with a kit lens and a 55-250mm zoom lens. At present, I use the Nikon D500 body and Nikkor 200-500mm lens.

TSM: What's your process of composing and framing a shot?

RB: For birds, I always try to fill the frame. At times when I cannot get close enough, then I try to compose a frame which is most pleasant for me at that moment.

TSM: Your thoughts on post-processing

RB: For your own records you don’t need any post-processing. But it is very important when you are presenting your works to the world.

TSM: How do you manage time between your medical practice and your passion?

RB: If one is passionate about one's hobbies then time is never a problem.

TSM: Any suggestion for the budding photographers

RB: Choose a genre which you love and start clicking. View and learn from other’s works who are ahead of you.
