Have you heard of Pohumara Chapori in the Bajali district of Assam? What? You don't know about it? Well, then, let me tell you.
Pohumara Chapori is one of the most popular places in Bajali- famous among the picnickers.
It is one of the most sought-after places by picnickers. During the peak season, thousands of picnickers throng this picturesque location.
But thanks to unprecedented soil erosion, this gift of nature is now under threat and faces extinction!
Situated 7 kilometres from Pathsala town, drastic erosion has eroded much of this beautiful location.
Depletion in the land mass has also faded its greenery.
"It wasn’t the same a few years back. However, with time, massive erosion has degraded the area's beauty," bemoaned Khanin Das, a local.
"If necessary action is not taken on time, then in a few years from now, the picnic spot won’t even exist," Das added.
The locals were very much concerned about the issue but felt helpless.
"With increasing floodwater, the situation is only aggravating," Das bemoaned.
Speaking to this correspondent, Bajali DC Cauvery Barkakati assured the people of taking necessary actions to protect this picnic spot.
