Agatha Sangma Ties Nuptial Knot

Agatha Sangma, the Lok Sabha MP from Tura in Meghalaya, got married on Thursday to Patrick Rongma Marak, a physician by profession.

The ceremony took place at the Sacred Heart Shrine in Tura.

The wedding was attended by a host of dignitaries including Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Former Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia was also present in the wedding.

Meghalaya CM and Agatha's elder brother Conrad Sangma flooded his Twitter account with images of the bride and the groom.

"Congratulations to the newlyweds! May God bless their union as they begin their journey together. Such a proud and happy moment for our family," the CM tweeted.

Prior to the wedding ceremony, the Meghalaya CM along with Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tributes to late PA Sangma.

"Like every parent, he would’ve been proud to walk her down the aisle and we wish he were here today," Conrad tweeted.

In the tweet, the Meghalaya Chief Minister also thanked Himanta Biswa Sarma for accompanying him.

Congratulating the couple, PM Narendra Modi tweeted, "Congratulations to Agatha and Patrick. Best wishes to the newlyweds."

"Congratulations also to your family on this happy and special occasion," he added.

"My friend, the late PA Sangma would have been delighted! @SangmaConrad," the tweet further said.

"Hearty congratulations to Agatha and Patrick. It's such a beautiful & memorable beginning of a new chapter in life," tweeted Kiren Rijiju.

"Congratulations to @SangmaConrad and the entire family on this very special occasion," the union sports minister further wrote.

"I've been lucky to be guided by the tallest leader of NE late PA Sangma sir!" the tweet added.

"Best wishes & congratulations to Agatha & Patrick on this wonderful journey towards new lives together," tweeted Arunachal CM Pema Khandu.

"Wishing a lifetime of love & happiness, may the years ahead be filled with lasting joy," Khandu added.

Agatha Sangma represents the Tura constituency of Meghalaya following the 2009 parliamentary election as a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

She also held the distinction of being the youngest minister of state in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet during the second term of the UPA regime.
