Ambubachi Mela 2025: Thousands Of Devotees Throng Kamakhya Temple

June 23, 2025

The sacred Ambubachi Mela 2025 is drawing thousands of pilgrims to the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. This unique four-day festival honours Goddess Kamakhya, symbolising her annual menstruation cycle — a celebration of fertility, creation, and the divine feminine force.

Significance Of Ambubachi Mela

Held during the monsoon in the Assamese month of Ahaar (mid-June), the Ambubachi Mela is one of Assam’s most important Hindu festivals. This year’s celebration began on June 22, 2025 and will conclude on June 26, 2025.

During these sacred days, the Kamakhya Temple doors remain closed as devotees believe the goddess enters her period of seclusion.

The main temple doors were shut after the Ambubachi Prabritti rituals on Sunday, and they will reopen on June 26, when thousands more pilgrims are expected to visit.

A Centre Of Tantric Worship

Perched atop the Nilachal Hills overlooking Guwahati city, Kamakhya Temple is one of India’s most revered Shakti Peethas and a vital centre for Tantric practices.

The temple attracts Hindu devotees and Tantric practitioners alike, who come to seek blessings and spiritual enlightenment.

Massive Turnout And Smooth Arrangements

The Ambubachi Mela sees participation from pilgrims across India and abroad. This year, the Kamakhya Temple management and Kamrup (Metro) district administration have coordinated extensive arrangements, including security, sanitation, water supply, and medical facilities to ensure the safety and comfort of devotees.

Assam CM’s Greeting To Pilgrims

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a social media post, conveyed his greetings on the occasion of Ambubachi Mahayog.

He emphasised that the festival is a celebration of Maa Kamakhya’s divine femininity, and welcomed spiritual leaders and pilgrims arriving at the sacred Nilachal Hills.

He expressed hope that visitors would receive Maa Kamakhya’s blessings and enjoy a meaningful spiritual journey.
