Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Batadroba Assembly constituency in Nagaon district of Assam Angoorlata Deka said that more women should join politics so that their representation at the Legislative Assembly goes up.

"More and more women should join politics, contest elections and try and register a victory and make their presence felt at the Assembly," Deka said while interacting with the journalists after filing her nomination papers on March 9.

She further said that she was an unknown figure in politics in 2016 when she upheld her candidature from the constituency.

"However, the people of Batadroba showed faith in me and showered their blessings and well wishes and welcomed me with an open heart," she said.

"This was mainly because they knew that believed in BJP and knew only BJP had the will to work for the people. They have seen massive development in these five years," she added.

"I am sure the love and blessings would continue this year as well and I am confident I will be victorious," she said.

She also expressed her happiness that apart from her another female candidate- Congress' Shivamoni Bora- is contesting the polls from the constituency this time.

"I am happy that one of my opposition candidates this year is a female and I expect a healthy contest the  MLA said.

Apart from Angoorlata Deka and Shivamoni Bora, the third candidate in the foray is Arup Kumar Saikia of the newly floated Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

Speaking to the media after filing her nomination, Bora said that she was confident of victory and that there was no doubt about it.

"I am confident that I will win as the people of Batadroba has seen that there has been no development in the constituency in the last five years," Bora reiterated.

AJP's Arup Kumar Saikia, who is also confident of victory, said that he would work along with the youths of the constituency for its betterment and development.
