Azure Power, (NYSE: AZRE), recently organised a felicitation ceremony for 114 students for passing skill enhancement courses in tailoring, beautician and basic computer from its Sarbherua Skill Development Center in Udalguri.

The event was attended by Chandan Borah, General Manager, Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), Rangia Zone as the chief guest along with several local village dignitaries.

“It is amazing to see the contribution that Azure Power has been making to the lives of the local community," Borah said.

"The skills being offered at the skill development centre will go a long way in empowering the people and help them lead better lives," he added.

"Sustainability at Azure Power not only includes providing clean and affordable energy but also improving the well-being of the communities in a socially responsible way," said Sumit Barat, Chief Sustainability Officer at Azure Power.

"In line with this commitment, our skill development centres have been empowering the beneficiaries by enhancing their livelihood," he added.

"This has brought on a significant change in the lives of the passing students that have been a part of our extended Azure family," he further said.

It may be mentioned here that the company currently runs Skill Development Centers in three more districts of Assam and it has provided training to over 500 people.

It has also distributed tools of the trade such as sewing machines, promoted animal husbandry, as well as employed people from the local community at the project sites.

The local infrastructure has also been augmented at the villages with initiatives like setting up streetlights and providing ROs for clean and safe drinking water.

Furthermore, the infrastructure in the local schools has been augmented into smart classrooms by the installation of multimedia-enabled and computer-aided learning solutions with the intended impact of improving the holistic educational facilities for students.

It may be mentioned here that Azure Power’s skill development centre in Udalguri provides training to the local community in cutting & tailoring, beautician & make-up and basic computer courses that has today become a source of regular income and increases the chances of future employment for the locals.
