Assam: FIR Against Two For Breaking Quarantine Protocols

June 20, 2020

An FIR was filed with the Hailakandi Sadar Police Station in Assam on Friday against two inmates of Government VMHS School quarantine centre.

The two inmates broke the quarantine centre rules and jumped out of the centre and went out for a mini shopping.

In-charge of the centre, Chiranjib Singha, said that the FIR was filed against the two for breaking quarantine protocols and putting everyone's life in danger.

The duo has been identified as Jakir Hussain Mazumdar and Parul Hussain, who were under institutional quarantine after they recently returned to Assam.

As per information, the duo jumped out of the quarantine centre and visited three shops at Old Hospital Point to buy garments, cigarettes and toiletries.

The on-duty security personnel at the centre caught them as they were about to enter the barricaded school building through which they escaped.

The duo confessed that they had broken the grilled window and the lock to go outside.

Meanwhile, Hailakandi Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Pranab Kumar Saikia informed that a case was registered against the two.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old COVID-19 positive man died in Assam on Friday due to head injuries he sustained while trying to flee from a quarantine centre.

The deceased had recently returned from Odisha and he was quarantined in a school near his native village in Bongaigaon district.

Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lakshmi Priya informed that the deceased and another person tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

The deceased tried to escape the quarantine centre when an ambulance was sent to shift them from the centre to a hospital for treatment.

The deceased slipped and injured his head while trying to flee the centre by jumping over the boundary walls of the centre.

The head injuries he sustained led to his demise in a hospital later on.

The DC informed that the man died on Thursday.

She further said his death won’t be counted in the COVID-19 fatality list of Assam as he didn’t die to the symptoms related to the outbreak, despite testing positive.
