Bangladesh is set to replace its ambassadors in 20 countries, with current diplomats being recalled, the government confirmed on December 10, 2024.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, stated that recommendations from political parties regarding the replacements were being actively considered.

Several diplomats are expected to be recalled in December as part of the Public Service Retirement (PLR) process.

The government has already initiated the process of appointing new ambassadors for these countries. While some aspects of the process are administrative, no formal public announcement has been made yet.

In addition, Azad Mazumdar addressed the findings of a committee tasked with investigating the deprivation of officials during the past 15 years under the ousted Awami League government.

The committee, which received around 1,540 applications, has submitted its report ahead of schedule.

After verification, it recommended the promotion of 764 officials, including retroactive benefits. The government is currently reviewing these recommendations before making final decisions.

Azad Mazumdar noted that some officials from the previous administration still occupy key positions, though administrative changes have been a regular feature under the current government.

"Thousands of changes have been made since the current government assumed office," Dhaka Tribune reported quoting Mazumdar.

He further explained that officials are promoted, transferred, or appointed as deemed necessary, taking into account administrative requirements and allegations of collaboration with the previous government.

These changes are part of routine administrative processes aimed at ensuring effective governance.
