Anti CAA protest in Assam

CAA Won't Hurt The Interests Of Assam: BJP

March 30, 2021

Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass addressing the media in Patacharkuchi on Monday evening said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA is not harmful to the state as some people have projected it to be.

"CAA will not hurt the interests of Assam and in no way is it harmful to the state," Dass said.

The state BJP president is contesting the 2021 Assam assembly election from the Patacharkucho assembly constituency.

He further stressed that CAA needs to be fully implemented in Assam and doing so will benefit the Koch-Rajbongshi, Rabha and the Garo communities in the state.

"The Citizenship (Amendment) Act was implemented in the country in 2004 except Assam when the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister," Dass said.

"The national organisations should have appealed for the implementation of that act," he further added.

"However, for vested interests, the organisation did not do so and created an issue out of nothing by demanding to scrap CAA," Dass further said.
