All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Bhanwar Jitendra Singh said that the next Assam Chief Minister will be from the Congress party.
Singh was addressing the media in Silchar on March 30 after former AICC president Rahul Gandhi's Silchar visit had to be cancelled owing to bad weather.
"Our vision is clear, we are reaching out to the people with our 5 guarantees and the next Chief Minister of the state will be from the Congress party and certainly a son of the soil," Singh said.
Quoting AIUDF chief Badaruddin Ajmal he said, "Respected Mr Ajmal too had agreed to support us on whoever will be the next Chief Minister from the Congress party."
It may be mentioned here that Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to reach Silchar and interact with women during the last few hours of the campaign trail for the second phase of Assembly elections.
However, bad weather and spells of rain did not allow his aircraft to land at the airport and it had to be diverted to Guwahati.
Silchar goes to poll on April 1 along with 37 other assembly constituencies.
The third and final phase of the Assam election will be held on April 6 and results will be declared on May 2.
