Conrad Sangma Seeks Improved Health Infrastructure

The Centre should give priority to economic planning and support to the states, said Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

He was speaking at the video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

"The Centre should also emphasise on giving economic support to the states," he further said during the conference on Monday.

"Health infrastructure should be improved in every state," Conrad Sangma further emphasised.

He also stressed on the need for each state to have its own economic plan keeping.

"Keeping in sight the respective reforms, every state must have their own economic planning," Conrad Sangma urged PM Modi.

He also said that the micromanagement of the present situation is important.

"Micromanagement of the present situation is of utmost importance. States should be allowed to take their own decisions,” Sangma said.

The Chief Minister emphasised that in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus further, the inter-state movement should be minimised.

"Due to the coronavirus pandemic, every state is facing financial issues," Conrad Sangma said.

"To mitigate these issues the Centre should intervene at the earliest," Sangma said in the video conference.

"Meghalaya has constituted an economic task force that is looking into boosting the state's economy during the lockdown period," Sangma informed.

"Every state must be allowed to initiate its own plans so that strategies can be more effective," Sangma emphasised.

“Economic zones for every state is of utmost importance and for this, we seek your complete support,” Sangma told Modi.

Sangma also praised the lockdown and said it has helped in limiting the spread of coronavirus globally.

"However, now, as we head towards relaxations in the lockdown, we must focus on restrictions with flexibilities," Conrad Sangma said.

This was for the fifth that the Chief Ministers of the states and the Union Territories had a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
