Death of a 64-year-old man in Maharashtra on March 17 (Tuesday) morning is the third coronavirus death reported from India.

The first coronavirus death was reported from Karnataka and the second from New Delhi.

As per reports, the 64-year-old man who died on March 17 morning tested positive for the novel coronavirus and was undergoing treatment at Kasturba Hospital.

After the state's first coronavirus death, the Maharashtra government has termed the next 20 days “decisive” in determining the spread of the virus in the state.

The first positive coronavirus case was detected in the state on March 9 and since then there has been 39 cases reported from across the state.

On March 17 (Tuesday), the total number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 125  and this includes both Indian and foreign nationals.

A total of 13 patients in the country have recovered successfully.

Meanwhile, a three-year-old girl from Kalyan in Maharashtra, who tested positive for coronavirus, became the youngest person to be infected in the state.

The Maharashtra government has ordered a partial shutdown as it prepares itself to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is worth mentioning here that the 63-year-old doctor who treated the 76-year-old Karnataka man who became the first COVID-19 death in country, has also tested positive for the virus.

“We have got 2 more #COVID2019 cases in Karnataka taking the total number of confirmed cases to 10," tweeted Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu early on Tuesday morning.

"20 yr old female who travelled from the UK is tested positive & another contact of P6 (Kalburgi deceased patient) is tested positive," the tweet added.

"Both are admitted in designated isolation hospital (sic),” B Sriramulu further said.

The World Health Organization (WHO), meanwhile, has praised India's efforts in tackling the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The virus has killed and infected over a thousand people in over 100 countries across the world.
