Initiating a new step in its war against air pollution, the Indian Army on Thursday launched an ecological initiative by introducing E-Cars to be used by its officials in New Delhi.

The initiative was launched in partnership with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), a joint venture of Central PSUs under the Ministry of Power.

The first lof of E-Cars was flagged off in New Delhi on Thursday by QMG Lieutenant General Gopal R.

In the first batch, the Army plans to operate 10 E-Cars as a pilot project and develope further.

The Army also plans to take forward the project in the future by increasing the number of E-Cars in New Delhi.

This would be done ensuring economy, efficiency, and minimal emissions.

In recent times, air pollution has become a major threat for the people of New Delhi with the air quality index of the national capital degrading gradually from worse to worst.

Not just New Delhi, but many major cities across the globe have been affected by the degrading air quality and various governments have taken multiple activities to fight this menace.

It is worth mentioning here that in the fight against air pollution, electric vehicle technology has proven quite viable.

It has helped immensely in reducing the carbon emission footprint.

The Indian Army has always been at the front in taking initiatives for combating pollution hazards.

It has a large number of Territorial Army Battalions (ECO) and they have done yeoman service in environmental protection initiatives.

The various Army units stationed in several remote and ecologically sensitive areas have been carrying out different activities o conserve the ecological balance and protect the environment.

They have also been working in close coordination with the local people for a better understanding of the local ecology.

It may be mentioned here that several Indian motor giants like the Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have taken steps by introducing E-Cars and the Indian Army's initiative will certainly give a boost to their initiative.
