Five Heist Movies To Watch On Netflix, Amazon Prime Or Disney+

November 20, 2021

Money Heist- a Spanish heist series that is currently streaming on popular OTT platform Netflix has grabbed the eyeballs worldwide and is regarded as one of the best web series ever on Netflix- though it was declared a flop in Spain.

The dubbed version in English, however, elevated the series to cult status and several makers have been now following the series makers in creating series similar to Money Heist.

If the series has made you a fan of the heist genre, then you should not miss these following five heist movies that are currently streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+.

Kaante (2002): Inspired by Quintin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs (1992), this Sanjay Gupta directorial is one of the finest heist movies made in Hindi in recent times. The movie has an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Lucky Ali, Mahesh Manjrekar, Kumar Gaurav, Namrata Singh Gujral, Rati Agnihotri, Rohit Roy, Isha Koppikar and Malaika Arora.

The movie tells the story of six Indian men (with criminal backgrounds) who are detained by Los Angeles police without any evidence. Feeling wronged, these men plot a bank heist after they are released by the police. The plan is such that once successful, it will leave the Los Angeles Police Department penniless. However, after the robbery is completed, things go out of hand and each man begins to suspect each other's identities and this leads to extreme chaos and mayhem. With intense performances and a tripping soundtrack, the movie keeps one glued to the screen until the end. Kaante in a nutshell is full of adrenaline with not a single dull moment. The movie is presently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Snatch (2000): A British-American crime comedy film, Snatch is directed by Guy Ritchie and has an ensemble cast of Benicio del Toro, Dennis Farina, Vinnie Jones, Brad Pitt, Rade Šerbedžija, and Jason Statham.

Set in London, the movie contains two plots that have been brilliantly intertwined by Ritchies. One plot deals with the search for a stolen diamond while the other plot narrates the story of a small-time boxing promoter who gets into trouble when he comes face-to-face with a brutal ganglord. When crime and comedy come in a single platter, then one could ask for nothing more. Grab the remote and switch to Netflix to watch this gripping, yet funny heist movie of a different kind and make your holidays a better one.

Hell Or High Water (2016): Directed by David Mackenzie, Hell Or High Water probably is the best heist movie presently streaming on Netflix.

Starring Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Gil Birmingham, the film follows the stories of two brothers who rob several banks in West Texas to keep their ranch alive. The two brothers are chased by two Texas Rangers and the cat and mouse game that follows is just what the doctor ordered for keeping you on the edge of your couch. Brilliant acting and several unexpected twists only add to the charm and thrill of the movie.

Johnny Gaddar (2007): Though not exactly a typical heist movie, this Hindi-language neo-noir thriller film written and directed by Sriram Raghavan is brilliant in its regard.

With an ensemble cast of Neil Nitin Mukesh (debut film), Dharmendra, Biswajit Chatterjee, Rimi Sen, Vinay Pathak, Zakir Hussain, Dayanand Shetty, Ashwini Kalsekar, and Govind Namdeo, the film tells the story of five men running a gambling club and how their life changes after they receive information that a drug package worth Rs 5 crore is available for half the price. Everything seems smooth and fine until a point when greed takes over and blindfolds them. What follows is not only ugly and twisted but is also extremely painful- for each of the characters. If you are yet to watch this cult (though it was a box office disaster), then wait for long. Open your Disney+ account and search for it and enjoy the movie with a box of popcorn.

Ocean's Eleven (2001): Starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Elliot Gould, and Al Pacino in the leads, this Steven Soderbergh directed movie is everything that one could ask from a heist movie- action, drama, comedy, and unexpected twists to keep you glued to the edge of your couch. A heist film to the core, Ocean's Eleven is also a hilariously funny movie. The movie is the beginning of Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s trilogy and watching all the three movies at one go would be even more entertaining. The entire trilogy is available on Netflix.

Enjoy these heist movies and make your weekend an exciting one!
