In a remarkable display of batting prowess, forgotten Indian batting star Karun Nair has set a new world record for the most consecutive List A runs scored without dismissal, amassing 542 runs.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 527 runs, established by former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin in 2010.
Nair's historic innings of 112 runs was instrumental in Vidarbha's eight-wicket victory over Uttar Pradesh in a Group D match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, held in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, on 3 January 2025.
This century marked his fourth in the tournament and his third consecutive hundred, underscoring his exceptional form.
Chasing a target of 308, Vidarbha reached 313 for two in 47.2 overs.
Karun Nair and Yash Rathod, who scored an unbeaten 138 off 140 balls, shared a formidable 228-run partnership for the second wicket, effectively sealing the win for their team.
This victory solidifies Vidarbha's position at the top of Group D, with 20 points from five matches and a net run rate (NRR) of +1.433. They lead ahead of Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, both with 14 points, but with NRRs of +2.758 and +0.262, respectively.
Nair's record-breaking feat places him ahead of notable cricketers such as Joshua van Heerden (512 runs), Fakhar Zaman (455), and Taufeeq Umar (422) in the list of most consecutive List A runs without dismissal.
This achievement not only highlights Nair's exceptional talent but also significantly contributes to Vidarbha's strong performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, positioning them as formidable contenders in the tournament.
It may be mentioned here that Karun Nair is the second Indian after Virendra Sehwag to score a triple century in Test Matches.
Karun Nair scored 303 not out against England in the Chennai Test Match in 2026.
