Ranjan Gogoi, the former Chief Justice of India (CJI), has been accorded with Z+ security- the top category VIP security cover- by the Centre on January 22, 2021.
According to officials, the 66-year-old former CJI from now on will be protected by armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos during his travel across the country.
Ranjan Gogoi, who hails from Assam, was the 46th CJI and he was in office from October 3, 2018, to November 17, 2019.

During Gogoi's tenure as the CJI, a number of controversial judgements were passed by the Supreme Court which also included the Ayodhya Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case.
The landmark judgement was passed on November 9, 2019.
After his retirement as the CJI, Gogoi was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Centre and after his appointment to the upper house, he was provided with a security cover by the Delhi Police.
Quoting unnamed sources ThePrint reported, "The CRPF has a VIP security unit and Gogoi is its 63rd protectee." sources said.
"An armed mobile team, comprising of 8-12 CRPF commandos, will be securing the former CJI during his travel across the country. His house, meanwhile, will be guarded by a similar team," ThePrint further wrote
